Questions About Shoden (Level One)

Clear answers about getting started, how you’ll be supported, and what to expect in Level One.

Who is Reiki Ryōhō training for — do I need any prior experience?
The beauty of Reiki Ryōhō is that it is open to everyone. No prior experience of any kind is required.
How do I know if I’m ready to begin?
If you are here, that is already the strongest sign. Many students feel a quiet calling to learn Reiki; others arrive to reconnect with the original roots of Reiki Ryōhō. Whether you’re new or returning, this is a place where your journey can take root.
Is Reiki Ryōhō connected to a religion or belief system?
No. Reiki Ryōhō isn’t tied to any religion and is open to anyone regardless of belief. While Usui Sensei was a Buddhist monk and some teachings are framed through that lens, the practice reflects your own inner state and pairs naturally with any personal spiritual path.
What makes training here different from other online Reiki courses?
Your training streams directly from Japan—from the mountains where Reiki began. Bruce returns each year to study with lineage teachers and the monks of Mt. Kurama and Mt. Hiei. Nothing is added or “upgraded”; you learn Reiki Ryōhō as it was handed down, with lifetime access and ongoing support.
What’s included with Shoden — do I get future updates?
Yes. Enrollment includes all video lessons, a comprehensive manual, and lifetime access. All future updates are included so your course grows alongside you as part of a lifelong practice.
How much time should I expect to commit for Level One?
It depends on your rhythm—some complete Shoden in a week, others move more slowly. What matters is integration, not speed. There is a required minimum of 21 days before moving on to Okuden so your practice can settle deeply.
How much personal support will I receive?
Support does not end with your certificate. You’ll have mentoring calls (more in Guided; a call at the end in Self-Paced) and ongoing help after you finish. Reiki is a lifelong practice; guidance remains available.
Do the mentoring calls or course access ever expire?
No. Both your course access and support calls remain open. You can schedule calls whenever you need them—even years later.
What if I only want Reiki for myself, not to teach or work with others?
That’s perfectly fine. Reiki is first and foremost an inner practice. Many students practice solely for themselves, while others go on to work with clients or teach. Whichever path you choose, you’ll be fully supported.
