Train in a living Japanese lineage
Your Usui Reiki Ryōhō courses at Roots of Life connect you to the living lineage of the practice from Kyoto. I return to Japan yearly to work with Reiki, at the very roots of the practice, and I bring that understanding directly back to my students.
- I’m a 4th-generation teacher — three teachers removed from Usui Sensei.
- Complete Shoden, Okuden, and Shinpiden with me to step forward as a 5th-generation practitioner.
- If you’re transferring in, we’ll review your background and fill any gaps with mentoring and materials.
Read the full lineage & requirements here. You’ll receive a certificate of completion after each level.
Shoden — learn to steady the mind and hands
Begin at the roots of Usui Reiki Ryōhō as you bridge between the “western” Reiki practices that many are familiar with, and move into traditional Reiki.
- Anchor attention into the physical body; understand how energy actually flows via a deep dive into the systems of the body.
- Learn core hand placements, self-care, etiquette, and the five precepts in lived practice.
- Why Mt. Kurama matters — and how that story changes your own practice.
- Progress into the deeper meanings of the traditional Japanese practice by exploring elements rarely taught.
Okuden — depth, symbols, and integration
We refine stillness, introduce the symbols as living tools, and bring practice into daily life with clarity.
- Use symbols in real sessions without feeling mechanical or forced — the opening of “Being,” not “Doing.”
- Exploring the full and complex depth of each symbol.
- Learn what “Okuden” really asks of us — turning inward to begin to feel the same journey Usui Sensei took.
- Form a deep connection to the stories, myths, and presence of Mt. Kurama (the birthplace of Reiki) and begin to see how the mountain is a mirror for your own journey inward.
Shinpiden — The “Mystery” teachings
Here we bring the pieces together. You will begin to internalize the state of “Being” within Reiki and work deeply on attachment and belief.
- Learn and incorporate the master Reiki symbol, exploring its true meaning and context.
- Understand how all of the symbols within Reiki work in tandem and how this impacts your internal state.
- Learn how to perform the attunement ritual for others, and deepen your understanding of what it means to “attune” others to Reiki.
- Emerge as a 5th-generation practitioner with a direct Japanese Reiki lineage.
