What This Training Means for YOU

Your Usui Reiki courses and trainings with Roots of Life connect you directly to the roots of Traditional Japanese Usui Reiki Ryōhō.

👺 A direct connection —  Ongoing study in Kyoto with senior lineage holders. (Your training stems directly from the source.)

👺 A training with depth — 100+ lessons, 25+ hours of guided teaching, clear and practical.

👺 Guidance that grows with you — Self-Paced or Guided with mentoring, lifetime access included.

👺 Become a 5th Generation Teacher/Practitioner — This is your opportunity to step into a living tradition of Usui Reiki Ryōhō and to learn it as few ever do.

👺 Why the Tengu emoji? In Japanese folklore, Tengu are the mountain guardians of Mt. Kurama in Kyoto — the place associated with Mikao Usui’s training. I use the tengu mark here and throughout the site as a small signpost for essentials: discipline, protection, and clear seeing in practice, and as a sign of respect to all that the Tengu teach us on our journey.

Your Learning Journey in Usui Reiki Ryōhō

How the path unfolds from first teachings to the mystery teachings — moving from listening, to practicing, to living Reiki.

Level One

Shoden — First Teachings

The opening investigation of the self. You learn to listen within using the original precepts and self-treatment as Usui Sensei taught.

  • Establish daily practice with the precepts & self-treatment.
  • Develop sensitivity to your internal state (“listening”).
  • Understand Usui Sensei’s path and why it matters today.

A brief metaphor on the journey: You enter a library and find a book on the shelf titled “The Story of You.” You’re meeting the whole of your life — mind, body, spirit — for the first time. This is Shoden.

Level Two

Okuden — Inner Teachings

From listening to cultivating calm. You work with the original symbols and practices to loosen attachment — the root of suffering.

  • Apply traditional symbols in grounded, original ways.
  • Release reactivity; stabilize inner peace in daily life.
  • See how belief & attachment shape experience.

Metaphor continued: you begin reading the pages — victories, fears, patterns — and gently editing the story with compassion and clarity. This is Okuden.

Master Level

Shinpiden — Mystery Teaching

Beyond the personal self into spacious presence. You cultivate neutrality and recognize your place in the one fabric of energy.

  • Live from embodied peace & clarity (mind–body–spirit).
  • Step into lineage as a 5th-generation teacher/practitioner.
  • Teach, attune, and support others — with ongoing mentoring.

Metaphor continued: As you continue reading you start erasing the passages in your book. As more blank pages emerge, so comes with it more peace… until, finally, you recognize there was never a book to begin with. This is Shinpiden.

Questions About Your Reiki Ryōhō Journey

Clear answers about the path, the practice, and how you’ll be supported along the way.

Who is Reiki Ryōhō training for — do I need any prior experience?
The beauty of Reiki Ryōhō is that it is open to everyone. No prior experience of any kind is required.
How do I know if I’m ready to begin this journey?
If you are here, that is already the strongest sign. Many students feel a quiet calling to learn Reiki, sometimes for years. Others arrive seeking to reconnect with the original roots of Reiki Ryōhō. Whether you are just beginning or returning from another path, this is a place where your journey can take root.
What’s the difference between Shoden, Okuden, and Shinpiden?
Shoden means “First Teachings” and opens the door to Reiki Ryōhō, focusing on the nature of your being.
Okuden means “Inner Teachings” and turns the practice inward, deepening peace and stability in the self.
Shinpiden means “The Mystery Teachings” and explores the mind, body, and spirit together—looking beyond the believed self to recognize our place in the greater fabric of the universe.
Is Reiki Ryōhō connected to a religion or belief system?
No. Reiki Ryōhō is not tied to any religion and is open to anyone regardless of belief. While Usui Sensei was a Buddhist monk and some teachings are framed through that lens, the practice reflects your own inner state and pairs naturally with any personal spiritual path.
What makes training here different from other Reiki courses online?
Your training streams directly from Japan—from the mountains where Reiki began. I return each year to study with my teachers and sit with the monks of Mt. Kurama and Mt. Hiei. Nothing is added or “upgraded”; I teach Reiki Ryōhō as it was handed down to me. Your enrollment is for life (including all updates) and ongoing support is part of the path. “Do your work honestly” is a core precept—I honor this fully with my students.
Does course enrollment include all course material and future updates?
Yes. Enrollment includes all video lessons, a comprehensive manual, and lifetime access. All future updates are included so your courses grow alongside you as part of a lifelong practice.
How much time should I expect to commit for each level?
It depends on your rhythm. Some complete a level in a week, others move more slowly—what matters is integration, not speed. There is a required minimum of 21 days between levels so your practice can settle deeply.
What if I only want to use Reiki for myself, not to teach or work with others?
That’s perfectly fine. Reiki is first and foremost an inner practice. Many students practice solely for themselves, while others go on to work with clients or teach. Whatever your path, you’ll be fully supported.
How much personal support will I receive?
Support does not end with your certificate. I walk with and support my students both during their courses and afterward. Reiki is a lifelong practice; my role is to offer guidance along the way.
Do the mentoring calls or course access ever expire?
No. Both your course access and your support calls remain open. You can schedule calls whenever you need them—even years later when you begin teaching or seeing clients.
What happens after Shinpiden?
You’ll be recognized as a 5th-generation teacher and practitioner of Reiki Ryōhō. Your daily self-practice continues; you may also teach or work with clients. Shinpiden materials include detailed next-step guidance, and you’ll have ongoing support via email, private mentoring calls, weekly Global Reiki Circles, and the Usui Reiki Ryōhō Community group.

Walking the path of Reiki Ryōhō together

Reiki Ryōhō has been my compass through everything — including crippling anxiety and cancer. It is not theory for me; it is a lived, daily practice that continues to restore clarity, steadiness, and kindness. I teach exactly as I was taught in Japan, within a direct lineage, and I return regularly to Mt. Kurama and Mt. Hiei to deepen with my teachers and bring that learning back to you.

  • Training that stays true to the roots of Usui Reiki Ryōhō — clear, practical, and original.
  • Lifelong access to your courses with updates included as the material grows.
  • Mentoring calls that never expire — book when you’re ready for support.
  • A genuine relationship: I support my students during the course and long after the certificate.
  • Complete the journey and step into lineage as a 5th-generation teacher & practitioner.

Your journey is always connected directly to the source — the mountains where this practice was born — and you will not walk it alone.
